After a few days of hesitation, and days searching for flights, I decided to purchase the plane tickets to fly to Munich to see beautiful granddaughter Siri.
The hesitation paid off, because while being undecided the flight costs dropped dramatically- thanks to the Coronavirus scare (it's not a pandemic yet, although it may be epidemic in places like Italy, Korea, Iran).
I'll be flying from Chicago on Saturday 14th, to arrive in Munich on the 15th a little after noon. My return is scheduled for the following Saturday, the 21st.
The flight from O'Hare to Munich is eight hours and 40 minutes; flying overnight and arriving in Munich at 1:05 PM.
Once in Munich, the ride from the airport to their apartment is only 37 google minutes
March 6th Update
The continuous barrage of news about Coronavirus is making my wife nervous and questionning my wisdom of making the trip. Especially news suggesting to avoid traveling. But my thinking is that the more bad news, the fewer people who will fly, and thus the smaller likelihood of contracting the disease.
March 7th Update
I just realized this morning that I wanted to get a TSA Pre-Check pass approved, so I can go through the fast lane at the airport check-in. But I just found out that the earliest I can get an appointment, in a nearby location in Wisconsin, is at the end of March. I could get one sooner if I drove to some town in Northern Chicago- but the drive would take longer than the waiting time at a regular line at the airport.
Must remember to apply for that when I return.

March 9th Update
No changes, the news on Coronavirus depends on what or who you see or hear. Some, particularly TV news, tend to be more dramatic and give an almost dire situation. Data floated around is very unreliable. So, my approach is just to wait and see. I should check and see flight costs, they probably dropped even further. But that will only depress me.
Still looking forward to going there and see beautiful Siri.
March 12th Update
After yesterday's announcement by President Trump that flights from most European countries will be stopped, I decided to postpone my trip. The risk is high that I would be stranded abroad which currently is not very appealing.
I have spent most of the morning trying to cancel the flight, with no success yet. All phone lines are busy and the websites are overloaded.
